The change from daylight savings to standard time always hits me hard, like a gut punch I see coming at me. For many people affected with SAD (Season Affective Disorder), this shift is not just a physical hit but can also be an emotional trigger. SAD can appear in the summer, as well! https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/seasonal-affective-disorder/symptoms-causes/syc-20364651
So, how do you switch from SAD to S.A.N. E.? As a Certified Professional LIfe Coach and a Group Mastery Coach, Im offering these four strategies to assist you in the season of daylight to darkness. By remembering each letter that starts the phrase, you can help incorporate the strategies more readily!
S = Seek joy; Look for the little things inside and outside of where you live and “take delight” in one small leaf, decoration, color, contrast, or bird song. Whatever brings you joy, be intentional as you seek and find it!
A = Ask for companionship, or whatever else you may need. If you aren’t sure what’s needed, then Assist someone else! By giving of your time and talents, an idea might arise of what it is you need to keep positive.
N = Negiotiate with yourself by replacin the negative thoughts with an opportunity to engage in something you enjoy, like sipping a flavored tea or coffee. Now might be the time to begin to read the book you’ve set aside.
E = Engage your brain constructively: Shift the dendrite connections in both brain lobes by working on a jigsaw puzzles, coloring, drawing, sketching, singing, writing, moving, stretching, and doing activities like Yoga!
